MCO DG honours retirees, hails legacy of service

The Director General of the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, on Friday, honored six retired staff and a former Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA), applauding their commitment, professionalism, and contribution to the development of the Agency.

It praised the retirees for their unwavering dedication, proactiveness, and pursuit of excellence throughout their years of service.

Nkom disclosed this in Abuja, at the send-off and appreciation award ceremony organised by the MCO in recognition of the retirees’ service to the office.

He emphasised that their legacy of hard work and professionalism has left an indelible mark on the agency, contributing immensely to its growth and effectiveness.

He added that their contributions would remain a lasting influence, wishing them a happy and fulfilling retirement while expressing confidence that their expertise may still be called upon when needed.

In a statement, the MCO Head of Press, Mrs. Okeke Amara Grace, reiterated the DG’s sentiment, noting that the retired, remain valued members of the MCO family.

In his remarks, Engr. Frank Odo, who is a friend to the Agency, wished the retirees well as he prayed for God’s guidance and protection, and quoted the late Pope Francis stating that, “Death is not Everything but after death there is something”, relating it to the retirees that despite them being retired there are still opportunities for them.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Abraham Oloruntoba thanked the DG and staff for the recognition, expressing deep gratitude for the support received during their tenure.

“Your labour of love and care will not be in vain. May God continue to uphold you to move the Agency forward,” he said, encouraging current staff to remain diligent in their duties.

He advised staff to be diligent with their work schedule, as they too will be remembered and honored for their service to the Agency.

Also present at the event was Mr. Jacob Olufemi Ayinshola, current DFA of the Ministry of Works and former DFA of MCO, appreciated the DG for his mentorship, especially in encouraging him during his promotion exams, and commended the retirees for their service, stressing that their responsibilities now extend to their families and communities.

He recounted how the DG encouraged him toward his promotion exams and presently it has paid off.

He praised the retirees for their steadfastness during their time in service, adding that despite being retired, they still have roles to play for their families and society, as God will continue to keep them alive in good health.

The event featured the presentation of Certificates and Plaques of Integrity in Service to the retirees and the former DFA.
