MCO partners DSS to tackle cybercrimes
The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO), on Tuesday, partnered with the Department of State Services (DSS) to train its staff on cybersecurity.
The training emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal and organizational systems against cyber threats.
Speaking at the training, Director-General of NMCO, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom urged staff to adhere to the cybersecurity guidelines outlined during the DSS-led training.
Engr. Nkom highlighted the significance of cybersecurity in protecting both personal and institutional assets, especially following the launch of NMCO’s electronic Mining Cadastre Plus (eMC+) system in November 2022.
He stated that MCO’s system is web based after the launch of the electronic Mining Cadastre Plus (eMC+), it is expected that every user is cautious and careful on their interactions online”.
He particularly explained the importance of the Agency’s system migration to online, which he stated will promote the efficiency and transparency in processing the application for Mineral Title and boost investment in the mineral sector.
He said: “I believe you all know that our eMC+ has been online since it was launched in November, 2022 and we have been receiving a lot of online applications. As such we need to be very careful and be able to identify such tricks as we are being taught today.
“Everybody is prone to attack and this training is part of our strategy in reforming the office and the need to develop security alertness. We must therefore be committed to ensuring zero tolerance on cybercrimes.”
A significant aspect of the training was the Declaration of Oath of Secrecy and Oath of Allegiance undertaken by NMCO staff. In a statement by the Agency’s Head of Press, Folasade Fatoke, this reaffirmation underscores the staff’s dedication to ethical service delivery, loyalty, and accountability.
The DG further explained that undertaking the declaration of Oath of Secrecy and Oath of Allegiance at the training is to lay emphasis on ethics of service, adding that there is need to develop personal set of values which include loyalty, honesty, hard work, accountability and integrity.
