Military wives celebrate academic excellence with new projects

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) marked another milestone in its commitment to educational excellence as it hosted the 2025 Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony at the DEPOWA Daycare, Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School, Abuja.

Delivering her address, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, expressed pride in the achievements of the pupils and students across all levels, describing the day as “a celebration of not only academic accomplishments but also the growth in character, creativity, and moral development” of the learners.”

The ceremony followed a week-long graduation celebration, during which the Kindergarten, Nursery, and Primary school pupils graduated on July 24, while the Secondary school graduation took place on July 26.

“In DEPOWA, we believe education is the bedrock of a progressive society. We are committed to nurturing young minds in an environment that promotes academic excellence, moral values, and patriotism,” Mrs. Musa noted.

Highlighting some of the transformational strides recorded under her two-year tenure, she listed several infrastructural and welfare improvements, including the repainting of school buildings, the equipping of science laboratories, the installation of new computers, and a 100 KVA MIKANO generator.

Others include establishing a culinary arts studio, increasing staff salaries, and providing incentives and health initiatives, such as eye screenings for students and cervical cancer screenings for female staff.
