Vice-chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Femi Mimiko, has announced plans for free medical surgeries and other activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, ascending the throne.
Mimiko, who chairs the planning and organising committee for the anniversary celebrations, said the programme was designed to reflect on the kingdom’s history, achievements and development aspirations.
In a statement, Mimiko, now High Chief Lisa-elect of Ondo Kingdom, said the celebrations, organised by the Ondo Development Committee (ODC), would provide an opportunity to celebrate the monarch’s two decades on the throne and showcase the kingdom’s heritage.
The medical outreach, tagged the “Festival of Surgeries,” will be one of the major highlights of the anniversary, reflecting the monarch’s background as a medical doctor and longstanding interest in public health.
The initiative is, however, expected to provide free surgical interventions to beneficiaries, bringing direct healthcare benefits to residents.
The anniversary, themed ’20 Years of Unprecedented Peace and Development in Ondo Kingdom’, will also feature a cultural fiesta, public lecture, inter-school debate, art exhibition, golf tournament and commissioning of legacy projects, among others.
Meanwhile, the organisers will unveil a documentary on Ondo’s social evolution and traditional institutions, alongside a compendium of the monarch’s speeches and a commemorative brochure documenting milestones of his reign.
The anniversary will also feature the unveiling and commencement of legacy development projects.
