Minister distributes N200m Ramadan support to residents, party members in Sokoto

The Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has commenced the distribution of cash and food items worth over N200 million to residents and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, the Minister said the intervention was designed to support vulnerable households and cushion economic challenges as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.

He described the initiative as part of his annual outreach programme aimed at promoting social welfare, inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment in the area.

The support package includes cash donations and essential food items such as rice, millet, sugar, guinea corn, maize and wrappers. According to the statement, the total value of the intervention exceeds N200 million.

Addressing beneficiaries, the Minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms and infrastructural development efforts across the country under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also commended the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his leadership and policies, which he said complement federal initiatives in the state.

The Minister further acknowledged the role of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, describing him as a mentor whose political guidance has contributed to unity and development in Sokoto State.

As part of the distribution, N33 million was disbursed to local government and ward executives of the party. Members of the local government executive received N100,000 each, while some executive members received N50,000 each.

Ward chairmen across the 11 wards received N200,000 each, with their secretaries receiving N100,000 each. Ward executive members were given N30,000 each, bringing the total disbursed to ward executives to approximately N12 million.

Other beneficiaries include the Goronyo Social Media Group (N2 million), Goronyo Youth Association (N1.5 million), youths in each of the 11 wards (N500,000 per ward), APC Youth Mobilisation (N1.5 million), eight elderly community leaders (N500,000 each), Goronyo Students Association (N1 million), former councillors (N500,000), decampees (N500,000), and the Women’s Association (N1.5 million).

In addition to the cash support, three trailer-loads of rice valued at about N90 million were distributed, alongside bags of sugar worth over N28 million and large quantities of millet and wrappers.

Security agencies including the Police, Military, Civil Defence, DSS, Community Guards and Vigilantes received about 178 bags of rice. Institutions such as the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), the Ministry of Justice (Magistrates and Courts), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also benefited from the Ramadan intervention.
