Minister suspends eight managers of NHIS

They are Mr. Olufemi Akingbade; General Manger, Zonal Coordinator South-South Zone, Mr. John Okon; General Manger, Finance Account, Mr. Yusuf Fatika; General Manger, Human Resources and Administration and Mr. Shehu Adamu; Assistant General Manager, Audit.

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac F. Adewole has announced the suspension of eight managers in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). 

They are Mr. Olufemi Akingbade; General Manger, Zonal Coordinator South-South Zone, Mr. John Okon; General Manger, Finance Account, Mr. Yusuf Fatika; General Manger, Human Resources and Administration and Mr. Shehu Adamu; Assistant General Manager, Audit.

Others are Mr. Vincent Mamdam, Assistant General Manager, Head Insurance, Mr. Safiyanu Attah, Senior Assistant Officer, Marketing; Mr. Owen Udo Udoma; Senior Manager, Contribution Management and Mr. Innocent Abbah; Senior Assistant Officer, Planning Research and Monitoring.

A statement from the ministry said the suspension was to allow the panel of inquiry to have an uninterrupted investigation.This followed the petitions against the NHIS, including security reports on alleged maladministration and mismanagement by officials of the scheme. 

The Minister urged the committee to “remain focused, fair and transparent in the discharge of the national task, despite the sensation that the issue has generated.
He directed the NHIS’s Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Attahiri Ibrahim, to ensure the immediate implementation of the order.
