Modulated salaries: Osun workers set to embark on indefinite strike

The organised labour in Osun State has directed workers in the state to proceed on indefinite strike on Wednesday, December27, over payment of modulated salaries by the state government.

The organised labour in Osun State has directed workers in the state to proceed on indefinite strike on Wednesday, December 27, over payment of modulated salaries by the state government.

Chairman of the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jacob Adekomi, gave the directive yesterday at a joint news conference of labour unions in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Adekomi urged workers to participate fully in the strike to ensure its success, adding that it was to press home their demand for payment of full salaries.

According to him, the state government has no reason to further pay workers modulated salaries, as well as maintain embargo on promotion since 2012, saying: “The declaration became necessary today, being the last working day before the 21-day ultimatum given the state government expires.”

Workers in the state had been receiving modulated salaries since 2015.

The payment regime entailed 100 per cent salary for workers on grade level One (1) to seven, 75 per cent for workers on grade level eight to 12 and 50 per cent for workers on grade level 13 and above.
