Monarch, community rehabilitate dilapidated Lagos- Iwo-Osogbo Road

OSUN-BAD-ROAD-1The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Telu 1 and eminent members of Iwo community in Osun State, have rehabilitated the delapidated Lagos-Iwo-Oshogbo Road that has been abandoned for many years.

The reason the traditional ruler and his subjects took up the challenge was that “the road is the shortest route from Iwo to Oshogbo and Lagos.”With the fixing of the road, the journey from Iwo to Oshogbo, which normally would take a traveller about three hours, would now take less than two hours.

The elated traditional ruler who spoke to The Guardian noted that the road had been abandoned for over 15 years.According to Oba Akanbi, “We have taken over the over the repairs of abandoned road from Iwo-Osogbo, which has been abandoned for over 15 years. The road is a straight route and shortest from Lagos through Iwo leading to Osogbo and many parts of Nigeria.

“The project has cost us a lot of money. Some Iwo indigenes also chipped in some materials. The Mogaji family, who owns an engineering company, is assisting us with the heavy equipment.

“The road has crippled the economic activities of Iwoland and other towns along the axis of the road.  The road, which serves as the gateway to the Osun state capital, must be put into good shape. It must be in good condition.

“We have to understand that self-help is the best help. Even community works/engagements precede the advent of government. Government cannot do everything for the masses. There is a need for the community to compliment the activities of the government.

“This is to call on all the various groups in Iwoland, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Isokan Muslimu of Iwoland, Tawun, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Tippers’ Association, Okada Riders’ Association, Bricklayers’ Association, Quarry Association and all other groups to support this project.
