Mother of Kano Senatorial candidate regains freedom

Hajiya Laure Maikunu, the aged mother of Kano Central Senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulkarim Abdulsalam Zaura, has regained her freedom.

Hajiya Maikunu was kidnapped by gunmen in the wee hours of Monday at her Zaura village in Ungogo Local Council of Kano State.

Kano State  Police command confirmed that barely 24 hours after, the mother of the business mogul was rescued by operatives of the Department of State Service DSS at a location in Jigawa State.

Although it was not certain whether or not ransom was paid before her release, a security source revealed that Hajiya Maikunu was rescued unhurt from his abductors.

The security source disclosed that she was rescued on Tuesday alongside another aged woman who was abducted almost ten days ago.

Although the police had told newsmen that the Command had launched a manhunt against the kidnappers to rescue the victims, the operation was however executed by the DSS.

Efforts to reach her son, Zaura, on the development and to confirm if ransom was paid before the rescue was not successful.
