Motorists, residents excited as Sanwo-Olu commissions Abiola-Onijemo link road, Alapere pedestrian bridge

Commissioned Abiola-Onijemo link road

Motorists and residents in both Ifako-Ijaiye and Kosofe Local Councils of Lagos State were excited yesterday following the commissioning of the Abiola-Onijemo link road with bridge and rebuilt Alapere pedestrian bridge.

They extolled Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for timely completion of the projects, which they said have enormous impacts on their lives.  Speaking after the commissioning, a resident, Nureni Ajibola recalled the difficulties they faced before the construction of the road.    According to him, residents have to pay to use a wooden pedestrian bridge, while some sold their vehicles due to the bad roads.     Another resident, Moji Adeoye, thanked the government for the project, saying it would help to boost her business and increase the rental values in the area.

For Adeola Okenla, who lives at Alapere area of Ketu, the commissioning of the pedestrian bridge damaged last year by truck has brought respite for residents, who are forced to risk their lives crossing the Berger-Oworonshoki expressway.

According to her, the Sanwo-Olu’s administration has demonstrated its commitment to infrastructure development, aligning with the state’s infrastructure master plan.

Speaking earlier during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and promised that more development projects are in the pipeline. He urged residents to take care of the new infrastructure, emphasising that it is a public property .

The governor also thanked the residents for paying their taxes, which he said has been instrumental in funding the construction of the roads. He appealed to landlords and landowners not to increase the prices of accommodations and land, allowing citizens to enjoy the benefits of the government’s efforts.

Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Hamzat Usman, praised the governor for his benevolence, noting that the local council has witnessed unprecedented development under his administration.

The Abiola-Onijemo link road is a 643-meter long project that includes a 135-meter reinforced concrete bridge with retaining walls. The infrastructure features 7.3-meter-wide carriageways, slip roads, walkways, and solar-powered street lighting.
