In less than 48 hours to Christmas, motorists traveling with their loved ones have been trapped in a gridlock that has lasted four days along Minna to Suleja, Maje to Jere, and Abuja to Kaduna expressways.

Eyewitnesses told The Guardian that the traffic caused by trailer trucks had blocked the highway from Maje in Suleja to Izom in Gurara local council of Niger State.

The eyewitness said about four of the trailers had accidents along the road.

It was gathered that the traffic extended to Diko junction up to Jere in Kaduna State through Tafa, hindering traffic flow along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

The stranded passengers and motorists were cited on both lanes of the roads having spent days experiencing hardships including hunger.

Food sellers used motorcycles to display their goods to interested persons for patronage.

Two passengers, who identified themselves as Musa Yahuza and Hajiya Salmat Ibn Kasim, revealed that they had to charter motorcycles from Jere in Kaduna state to Lambata in Gurara local council of Niger at the cost of N7,000.

Also, passengers from Suleja who choose to use a motorcycle from Maje to Lambata would have to pay between N3,000 and N4,000.

Sources from the area hinted that most of the vehicles and their drivers, with passengers, slept on the road due to the gridlocks experienced in the last four days, from Suleja to Lambata.

They lamented that there was no personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Nigerian Police in sight to solve the problem.
