The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered two illegal alcohol production syndicates operating in Lagos State, seizing counterfeit and adulterated products worth ₦350 million.

According to the agency, the operation followed credible intelligence that led enforcement teams to raid facilities located at Zamfara Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex and parts of Lagos Island. During the raids, officials recovered more than 1,800 cartons of fake alcoholic beverages.

At the Trade Fair Complex, operatives discovered makeshift production sites equipped with plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, and large quantities of empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials. These items were allegedly used to manufacture and package counterfeit alcoholic drinks for distribution.

In a related operation on Lagos Island, NAFDAC officials arrested a suspect linked to the production and retail distribution of the adulterated beverages. The agency confirmed that all seized products have been evacuated for further regulatory action.

NAFDAC warned that the consumption of adulterated alcoholic beverages poses severe health risks, including poisoning, organ damage, and death. The agency reiterated its commitment to prosecuting offenders and curbing the circulation of substandard products.

It also urged the public to remain vigilant, purchase consumables only from authorised outlets, and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its toll-free line.
