South-West NANS urge due process in the upgrade of Ilesa College of Education to varsity

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), yesterday, decried the recent scarcity of fuel in parts of the country, seeking immediate reversal to the old price of petrol and functional refineries.

It also bemoaned the hardship the fuel crisis had foisted on Nigerians amid skyrocketing costs of living.

These were contained in a statement made available to journalists by the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NANS, Giwa Yisa Temitope, and the Coordinator of the body in South-West, Emmanuel Olatunji Adegboye.

In another development, the South-West Zone of NANS, yesterday, urged Osun State Government to ensure transparency and due process in the upgrade of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, into a university.

The student body said if due process is not followed and critical stakeholders are neglected, it would amount to cutting someone’s hair in his absence.

This was contained in a statement signed by its Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, Olatunji Emmanuel Adegboye; Deputy Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, John Alao and Public Relations Officer, NANS South-West, Zone D, Opeoluwa Awoyinfa.

The students said: ‘’Today, we are here to address the peculiar development following the assent of Governor Oyetola-led administration to the law upgrading Osun State College of Education, Ilesa to a university. We find it expedient to lay bare some intrinsic and cogent factors that could delay or even disrupt the entire implementation if not handled professionally, sincerely and objectively.

‘’The government and all concerned stakeholders should have no doubt as to our absolute support and interest in the proposed upgrade.

‘’In no small measure, it will further give credence to the educational yearnings of the good people of Ilesa particularly and Osun State generally.

‘’In addition, the host community will experience an upsurge in socio-economic activities, an increment in cultural exchange and other phenomenal advantages.

‘’However, it is of paramount essence that some germane elements be diagnosed, analysed and treated completely.

‘’These elements will form the sure foundation of the proposed UNILESA.”
