The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Ministry of Works to sustain construction on federal road projects in Cross River and Benue states until they are completed and opened to the public.
The call followed an inspection of three road projects at the weekend by a delegation led by the President of the NANS Senate, Dist. Senator Ibeabuchi Onyia.
The projects inspected were the Alesi-Ugep road in Cross River State, the Cross River section of the Calabar Coastal Highway and the Adilikpo-Ajio-Teshe-Ada-Kyogen-Obudu road linking Cross River and Benue states.
The delegation comprised national officers, zonal leaders, state executives, campus leaders and other students.
According to the inspection report, the team observed progress on the projects and commended the standard of work, urging the ministry to maintain the pace until all the roads are completed.
The delegation also inspected Sections 3A and 3B of the Calabar Coastal Highway, covering chainage 0+000 to 65+000 in Cross River State.
NANS said the roads, when completed, would reduce travel time, improve access to markets and farmlands, connect border communities and ease transportation difficulties for residents.
The association added that the projects could boost trade between states, create economic opportunities and improve road safety.
Onyia commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and President Bola Tinubu over the projects, expressing confidence in their commitment to infrastructure development.
