Adeleke nominates Aremu to head education reform committee
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, yesterday, urged South-West governors to emulate Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, in declaring free education and improving the sector.
Coordinator of the zone, Alao John, gave the charge in a statement in Ibadan.
The statement reads in part: “The recent visit of Governor Agbu Kefas to Taraba State University and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, where he ordered an immediate 50 per cent reduction in school fees, is indeed commendable and deserves recognition.
“This significant reduction in school fees will undoubtedly alleviate the financial burden on students and their families.
“We urge governors in the South-West region to emulate his exemplary initiatives. We implore them to prioritise the education sector and take necessary steps towards improving the quality of education in their respective states.”
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated a 16-man education summit committee headed by Prof. Oyesoji Aremu of the Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan (UI).
Aremu, who disclosed this to The Guardian in Ibadan, at the weekend, said the committee was set up to revamp the lost glory of education in the state.
According to him, the committee comprises great and accomplished professionals with enviable track records drawn from different levels of education.
Adeleke, who was represented at the inauguration by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, charged the team to come up with best modalities that would provide a lasting solution to poor performance in the education sector.
In his acceptance speech, Aremu appreciated the governor for reposing confidence in them to find a lasting solution to the ugly face in the education sector.
