Nasarawa governor Al-makura swears in NASIEC chairman, members

Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has inaugurated the new chairman and members of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC).

Al-makura charged the new electoral umpire to be fair and transparent in the conduct of the forthcoming council polls, slated for May 26.

The governor gave the charge yesterday at the Government House, Lafia, during the swearing-in of the members of the commission and its chairman, a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service and two council chairmen.

According to Al-makura the people of the state are expecting a credible election, hence, the commission should carry out its duty without fear of favour.

The governor also said the state has sent a bill to the house of assembly to extend the tenure of council chairmen from two to three years.

According to the governor, the bill is proposing two years for council chairmen to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroot.

Speaking on behalf of the inaugurated officials, the Chairman of NASIEC, Henry Omaku thanked the governor for the appointment and assured of their commitment to deliver a credible election.
