NBA Ijebu Ode kicks off Law Week with Bar Centre unveiling

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ijebu Ode Branch, has commenced its 2025 Law Week celebration with a kick-off event at the newly unveiled Bamofin Ade Adedeji (SAN) Bar Centre in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The week-long event, themed “LAW & GOVERNANCE: THE NEXUS,” is set to run from July 4 to July 11, 2025, featuring a series of activities aimed at engaging members and the wider community.

Chairman of the NBA, Ijebu Ode Branch, Chief Prof. Fassy Adetokunboh O. Yusuf, during a press conference held at the centre located within the premises of the High Court, Ijebu Ode, acknowledged the generous donation of the ultra-modern facility by Chief Ade Adedeji (SAN), the Bamofin of Ijebu, describing it as “a very auspicious moment in the annals of the Ijebu Ode Branch.”

Chief Yusuf, who is also a Justice of Peace and Baagbimo of Ijebu, expressed gratitude for Chief Adedeji’s “exemplary generosity and good-naturedness.” He highlighted that the press conference marked the inaugural event to be held in the nearly completed edifice, with a formal commissioning ceremony to be announced at a later date.

Chief Yusuf emphasised the vital role of the legal profession as “ministers in the Temple of Justice,” upholding “Justice, Equity, and Fairness” as the fundamental cornerstones of society and democracy.

The Law Week programme, a customary event for the legal profession, promises a blend of professional development, community engagement, and social activities.

Expected dignitaries for the Law Week include the Ogun State Deputy Governor, the Ogun State Chief Judge, and the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Taiwo Taiwo (retired), a former Federal High Court judge, with the President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, also expected to lead a high-powered team from the national secretariat.

The Law Week launch on July 4 was immediately followed by Juma’at prayers at the Ijebu Ode Central Mosque. On Saturday, July 5, members will participate in a fitness exercise at Dipo Dina Stadium, followed by a bonding and hangout session at the Bar Centre.

A church service will be held on Sunday, July 6, at the Cathedral Church of Our Saviour, Italowajoda. Monday, July 7, will see activities including a tree-planting exercise at the Bar Centre and a simultaneous Legal Clinic & Awareness programme across the six local government headquarters: Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Ijebu North, Ijebu North East, Ijebu East, and Ogun Waterside.

On Tuesday, July 8, members will conduct visitations to various security and correctional facilities, including the Ijebu Ode Custodial Centre, Nigeria Police Area Commands in Ijebu Ode and Ogbere, Nigerian Army in Ilese, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Security & Civil Defence Corps, and TRACE.

Wednesday, July 9, is designated for a Sports Day at Dipo Dina Stadium, featuring football, lawn tennis, table tennis, and jogging, with a highlight being the novel Chairman’s Cup football match between the NBA Ijebu Ode squad and the Nigeria Police Machine team.

The 27th Bar Lecture, a signature activity, will take place on Thursday, July 10, at the Bar Centre, delving into the theme “LAW & GOVERNANCE – THE NEXUS” with a panel discussion. The week will culminate on Friday, July 11, with the NBA Ijebu Ode 2025 Annual Bar Dinner & Awards at the Bar Centre.
