NDLEA sensitises youth corps members on dangers of drug abuse
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Tincan Island Command recently held a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation event for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council, Lagos.
The event, hosted at the local council secretariat, drew many corps members, who were encouraged to avoid illicit drug trafficking and abuse and focus on making positive contributions to society.
Council Chairman Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, represented by Vice Chairman Lucky Uduikhue, emphasised the need for youth to reject drug abuse and be responsible citizens.
“We cannot afford to lose our young people to drug trafficking and abuse. Together, we must educate and empower our youths to make positive choices and lead healthy, productive lives,” Ayoola remarked.
Mitchell Ofoyeju, Commander of Narcotics at the Tincan Island Port Strategic Command, underscored the importance of engaging young people in discussions about the dangers of drugs, saying, “The youth are the future of our nation. We must empower them with knowledge and skills to resist the allure of drugs, building a society of hope, health, and productivity.”
Following a lecture titled ‘Dangers of Drug Abuse’ by Assistant Commander of Narcotics SalihuIsah Machi, Commander Ofoyeju decorated Uduikhue as a WADA partner, symbolising collaboration to mobilise local communities against drug abuse.
The event included an interactive session where NDLEA representatives led discussions on the risks of drug abuse, legal consequences, and the role of community reporting.
The chairman reiterated his commitment to supporting NDLEA initiatives and invited stakeholders to unite to foster a drug-free, prosperous community. Participants expressed satisfaction, sharing ideas on how to combat drug abuse in their communities effectively.
