Seeks seaport activation
The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has condemned alleged marginalisation of the Niger Delta region, demanding immediate action from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

NDYC National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, lamented the region’s suffering despite generating immense wealth from oil extraction.
“Our resources are drained, lands degraded, and people impoverished while non-oil producing states benefit,” Uwejeyan stated.
The Niger Delta Youth Congress strongly demands the immediate relocation of oil companies’ headquarters to oil-producing states, stressing that it is an egregious insult for these corporations to operate from states that contribute nothing to oil production.
“This relocation must be initiated and completed within the first quarter of 2025.”
Furthermore, the NDYC demands the full activation of Warri and Sapele Seaports, condemning the Federal Government’s neglect as deliberate sabotage of the Niger Delta region’s economic potential.
“The seaports’ reactivation will drive economic growth in the South-South and South-East regions.”
The NDYC also rejects the existing arrangement perpetuating Niger Delta impoverishment, seeking fair tax revenue distribution and empowerment of Niger Delta states to monitor oil companies’ activities.
Uwejeyan noted that decentralisation of maritime operations will decongest Lagos ports, reduce inefficiencies and distribute economic benefits equitably.
“The Niger Delta has sacrificed too much. We won’t tolerate economic sabotage, oppression and second-class citizenship.”
The NDYC condemned scrapping of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), seeking policy reversal and reinstatement.
“Nigeria’s prosperity depends on fairness, respect and equity for all regions,” Uwejeyan emphasized. “We’ll remain vigilant until our demands are met.”
