New varsity seeks collaboration with security agencies

Security agencies in Oyo state have assured the management of newly inaugurated Technical University (TechU), Ibadan of adequate protection as academic activities take off at the institution.

Security agencies in Oyo state have assured the management of newly inaugurated Technical University (TechU), Ibadan of adequate protection as academic activities take off at the institution.

The state Police Commissioner, Abiodun Odude and Director, State Security Service (SSS), Y. A. Kure who gave the assurance while receiving the management team of the institution, in separate visits, said priority would be given the university as it officially opens its doors to pioneer students.

On the team of Tech-U management led by the vice chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami were the Special Adviser on security to the Oyo State Governor, Segun Bolarinwa; the University Registrar, Alex Oladeji and Bursar, Kehinde Olatokun.

Others were the Librarian, Bukky Asubiojo, Director of Academic Planning and Partnership, Prof. Sola Ajayi, Director, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun and Media Officer, Ademola Adesola.

Speaking, Prof Salami explained that the visit was to solicit the support and cooperation of the security agencies as the institution begins operations.

Citing the vulnerability of the university location, which is situated along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, he stressed the need for collaboration between the institution and the security agencies.

Odude assured the institution of the command’s readiness to support the new university, as it commences operations.

“Special attention will be given to the university. We understand the peculiarity of security for higher institutions. Already you have shown by your visit that you understand the importance of security to the success of your operation,” he said.

Also, the SSS Director promised to ensure that the agency plays its role of protecting lives and safeguarding the university environment.
