Niger court remands 45-year-old man for sexually assaulting two teenagers

A Chief Magistrate’s court sitting in Minna, Niger State, has remanded a 45-year-old man, Kasali Hassan (alias Alfa), in correctional custody for sexual assault, unnatural and unlawful sexual intercourse with two children.

A Chief Magistrate’s court sitting in Minna, Niger State, has remanded a 45-year-old man, Kasali Hassan (alias Alfa), in correctional custody for sexual assault, unnatural and unlawful sexual intercourse with two children.

 
Chief Magistrate Hajiya Fati Hassan Umar remanded the suspect after he pleaded not guilty to two-count charge preferred against him by Police Prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta.
 
The charge contravened section 284 of the Penal code law and Section 26(2) of Niger State Child Right Law 2021, as amended.
 
Kasali, who hails from Limawa area in Chanchaga Local Council of the state was alleged to have on June 26, at about 1:00p.m. lured the two teenagers and have  canal knowledge of them through the anus.
   
One Yusuf Aliyu reported the incident at   ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, Minna on that same date. The unlawful act prompted police detectives to swing into action and arrested Kasali.
 
During police interrogation, Kasali confessed to have enticed the two children with N50 each before engaging them in an unlawful sexual act on several occasions since May 2022.
 
After the defendant’s not guilty plea, the Police Prosecutor, Yakubu Kuta, informed the court that investigation into the case had just begun.
  
He stressed that in view of the serious nature of the offences, the two charges are not ordinarily bail-able and requested the Chief Magistrate to remand Kasali in correctional custody pending the completion of police investigation.
