Niger Delta youths, under the auspices of 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC), have disclaimed a new group known as Niger Delta Creek Warriors.
The disclaimer is contained in a statement signed by the 21st CYNDAC leader, Izon Ebi.
He said he was miffed by blackmail and intimidation targeted at Niger Delta sons in the oil and gas sector by a new group.
According to him, his organisation would have ignored the tirade of the group, but for the need to put records straight and to tell the world that criminal acts by the group has no bearing on the aspirations of the people of the region.
It read: “Despite Niger Delta hosting 90 per cent of the hydrocarbon deposits in the country, citizens of the region occupy less than 5 per cent of executive positions in the management cadre of oil and gas companies, whose resources are domiciled in the region. It, therefore, smacks of utter insensitivity and stupidity for a band of criminally-minded thugs to go on a petition spree on the few sons of the region at the management cadre of different organisations and parastatals to intimidate them for extortion.”
The statement wondered why the group, which it described as faceless, would not concern itself with remediation of the oil spill in the Nembe creeks, instead of intimidating a few people of the region, whose input are needed.
It added: “It should be on record that these groups are not representing youths and people of the region. Security agencies should do the needful by arresting and prosecuting these criminals, who, under the guise of agitation, are blowing up pipelines and causing environmental havoc to the region.”
