The Niger State Police Command announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Mohammed Rabiu of Lambata in Gurara Local Government Area, on August 2, 2025, at approximately 9 a.m.
The arrest followed a direct complaint made to operatives at Kpakungu Division in Minna, the state capital.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Rabiu was apprehended in the Barkin-Sale area of Minna after being identified by the father of a kidnapped boy.
Investigations revealed that in 2023, a group of suspected kidnappers invaded Dagwi village, accessed through Beji, and abducted a 10-year-old boy. The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of N300,000, along with a carton of energy drinks, packets of cigarettes, foodstuffs, and recharge cards before releasing the victim.
During interrogation, Rabiu confessed to participating in the kidnapping and named several accomplices, including Mahmuda, Aminu, Ibrahim, Yellow, Muazu, and Lago.
He also admitted involvement in the killing of a farmer in the same area in 2023. Rabiu stated that the group typically took their victims to Washa Forest via Beji.
The police have continued their investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping gang.
