Governor Mohammad Umaru Bago has promised to donate 1,000 hectares of land within Niger State to the Nigerian Army for its post-service housing development.
Bago made the promise when the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Post-service Housing Development of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ishaiah Allison, visited him at the Niger State liaison office in Abuja.
He praised the Nigerian Army’s housing initiative, adding that it aligns with his administration’s vision for an agriculturally sustainable housing scheme for veterans.
Bago had decried how people are left hopeless after serving the country for years, noting that the Nigerian Army’s post-service housing development initiative will go a long way toward giving military veterans a sense of belonging.
According to Bago, “1,000 hectares of land will be enough for housing and agricultural activities for the veterans,” adding that the state government team will work closely with the Nigerian Army team to ensure more support and success of the initiative.
Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Post-service Housing Development of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ishaiah Allison, disclosed that the initiative is aimed at providing affordable housing for the Army’s retired officers as part of their welfare package.
He said the Army intends to make housing truly affordable for veterans, hence the need for support from state governments to provide land to achieve the desired objectives.
General Allison applauded the governor for his unwavering support and contributions to the Nigerian Army, urging him to sustain the tempo.
