Nigeria endorses Kyoto protocol on climate change
Nigeria has become the 144th country to ratify the Doha amendment to the Kyoto Protocol on United Nations (UN) climate change, as President Muhammadu Buhari endorses the international document to save the country from the impact of climate change.
Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, said at the weekend in Kaduna, that when the protocol comes into force by the end of the year, gas emissions responsible for climate change and global warming that have endangered lives globally, would be significantly reduced.
“Our country ratified the Doha amendment to the Kyoto Protocol on Friday, October 2, 2020. The amendment started in 1997 when 192 countries in conference of parties, under the UN’s climate change framework on convention on climate change agreed to the protocol,” he said.
