400 Nigerians deported from UAE
Four hundred Nigerians have been deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) back to Nigeria.
According to the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the 400 deportees comprise 90 females and 310 males.
They were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja by the office of the National Security Adviser (NAS) in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
Also present at the airport to receive the deportees are National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders.
Just last month, South Africa deported 90 Nigerians for committing immigration-related offences.
The deportees were dropped off from Johannesburg by a South African Airways flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The Lagos Airport police spokesperson, DSP Joseph Alabi, said that most of the deportees (all male) were living in South Africa without valid documents.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), It was the second mass deportation after a February 28 exercise when 97 Nigerians including two females were deported from South Africa.
Also in June, 103 Nigerians deported from Turkey over migration-related issues such as expired visas and irregular migration, among others.
Some of the deportees claimed that they were detained by the Turkish authorities for over 11 months before being deported.
