Foundation seeks compulsory DNA test for children

The Ikere Ekiti community, in the Ikere Local Council of Ekiti State, has pledged to intervene and assist in unravelling the cause of death of the late Nigerian rapper and musician, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

This came as the Europe-based Larry Omodia Foundation for Justice Reform (LOFJR) called for legislation to make compulsory DNA testing for every baby born in Nigeria, drawing on the alleged controversy surrounding the paternity of Mohbad’s son.

The community made the declaration when the Foundation visited Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, yesterday to seek the intervention of the paramount ruler, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, to uncover the circumstances that led to the musician’s death.

Speaking at the meeting, the monarch expressed sadness about Mohbad’s death, saying that the Ikere Ekiti community is yet to come to terms with the young musician’s demise. He said: “It is rather unfortunate. You know Sade Adu is from this town. We were hoping that Mohbad would soon be another star. His death was very painful, and we have not gotten over it.

“God bless your group because what you are doing is humanitarian. We will consider your request and get back to you.” Also, the head of the council of chiefs in the kingdom, Chief Sapetu, Prof Babatola Olufemi, said that the LOFJR’s visit to Ikere Ekiti has further underscored the need for the community to intervene.

“Aloba is our son. Mohbad is also our son. We have heard a lot about his death, but your coming has brought the issue closer to home, showing the need for our intervention. When we study your request, we will decide where the kingdom will intervene.”

Earlier, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Mr Omodia, said that the foundation had been sent to Ikere Ekiti to plead with the kingdom to help unravel the mysteries surrounding Mohbad’s death. He said: “We beg your majesty to engage the Nigerian Inspector General of Police on behalf of the world. Use your office to seek justice for Mohbad via the

Inspector General of Police.
“Compel and support your son, Joseph Aloba, to complete the DNA test as requested by the court and Nigerians, and compel Joseph Aloba, your son of this land, to bury Mohbad and stop delaying his journey to the afterlife.”

Omodia also asked the community to compel Aloba to come home and invoke the spirit of Mohbad so that the world can know the truth of who killed him. On the need for legislation for free DNA testing, he said: “The DNA factor is part of Mohbad’s case. How many married women are sleeping with married men? There are millions. All this could lead to murder cases.

“Mohbad’s wife has been accused of promiscuity and also accused of knowing what killed her husband. We are interested in clearing this up.

“We want DNA tests to be carried out. We will lobby for a law that every baby born in Nigeria undergoes a DNA test before their father’s name is known. The fathers must know if they are truly the real fathers.

“You must do a DNA test for your baby. The Mohbad case is enough to champion free DNA testing in Nigeria.”
