FG repatriates another batch of 390 Nigerians stranded in Niger

The Federal government has concluded the repatriation of 390 Nigerian migrants stranded in neighboring Niger Republic.

The returnees include an infant, female and male adults arrived Kano en route Niamey through land travel in the early hours of Tuesday.

Prior to the present batch, 400 Nigerian migrants were repatriated from Niger in December 2024 by the Federal government on volunteery basis.

While receiving the reception returnees at the Nigerian Immigration Training School, Kano, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijjani Ahmed, said the migrants had sought government intervention to return them back home.

Ahmad said the recent repatriation exercise is part of Federal Government’s commitment to reintegrating the returnees into various empowerment programmes under the renewed hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that the repatriation efforts was coordinated through multi-agency operation organised by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Represented by the Kano State Field Coordinator, Hajiya Lubah Liman, the commissioner said the latest effort marks the continuation of voluntary returns initiated in 2024 and represents the third batch of returnees from Niger Republic.

Upon arrival, the returnees were registered and profiled by NCFRMI and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officials to ensure proper documentation and access to various Federal Government reintegration support programmes.

He commended the seamless collaborative efforts of the participating agencies.
