2025: Enugu earmarks N55b for roads, N50b for governor’s office

The Enugu State government has set aside the sum of N55b for the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of urban and rural roads for the 2025 fiscal year.

The government will also spend the sum of N50 billion for the Office of the Governor; N665 million for the Deputy Governor’s Office; and N3 billion for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, out of the over N971 billion appropriated for the year under review.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Chris-Roberts Ozongwu, disclosed this during the breakdown of the 2025 budget estimate at the Press Centre, Enugu, on Thursday.

Ozongwu said that the dualisation of the Nike-Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road will cost a sum of N10 billion, while the sum of N1 billion will go for the completion of the Ugwuogo Nike-Agu Ukehe-Umunko Road, as well as the 15km Phase in Igbo Etiti/Enugu local government areas.

On sports, Ozongwu said that N10 billion would be used for the renovation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, while N3 billion is for the revamping of Awgu Games Village in Awgu local government area.

According to him, the sum of N146 billion is mapped out for the equipping of the Smart Schools across the 260 political wards in the state, while N100 billion is for the construction of “200 Integrated Model Smart Schools, comprising of three classroom blocks for Nursery, six classroom blocks for Primary, and 6 classroom blocks for Junior Secondary in the 250 wards in the 17 local government areas.”

Additionally, Ozongwu said that N500 million is mapped out for the first phase of construction of a three-storey building for a standard library, auditorium, and classrooms at the Awgu Campus.

On health, the Commissioner said that the government will spend N500 million for the establishment of the Enugu Blood Service Commission and N20 billion for the construction of the Enugu International Hospital in Rangers Avenue.

In the area of agriculture, the commissioner said that N20 billion is set apart for the purchase of 1,000 tractors and implemented to assist mechanised farming in Enugu.

He said that N52.5 billion is budgeted for the clearing and development of 100,000 hectares of land for 3 Special Crop Processing Agricultural Zones.
