A 50-year-old man is currently in police custody following allegations of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State.
Reports indicate the young girl was on her way to her grandmother’s house when the suspect allegedly assaulted her.
Community sources reveal that a family member of the victim reported the incident, leading to the suspect’s arrest over the weekend.
He is currently being held at the Ogwashi Uku Police Divisional Headquarters.
The victim was taken to a government hospital, where medical examinations confirmed the assault.
A source stated, “We took the child to a Government Hospital where she was examined, and the doctor confirmed that the child had been violated.”
The child subsequently identified the suspect as the perpetrator.
The victim’s mother recounted the harrowing experience, stating that she had instructed her daughter to go to her grandmother’s house after school as she would be attending church. Upon her return, she noticed her daughter was in distress and complaining of pain. Further investigation led to the discovery of evidence of the assault, prompting her to report the incident to family members and, subsequently, the police.
Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the arrest and assured the public that investigations are ongoing.
