Armed bandits attacked Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government, Kwara State, on Sunday night, killing one and injuring two others.

Information reached The Guardian Newspaper that the two injured were women of Hausa and Nupe ethnicity.

A dependable source disclosed that they have since been rushed to Ilorin, the state capital, for medical attention.

Another source (name withheld) hinted that confusion broke out in the community when the armed bandits arrived shortly after the Isha’i prayer, shooting indiscriminately to force residents to scamper.

“As it is now, there is no confirmation yet regarding the number of casualties or villagers abducted,” the source said.

He added: “The bandits stormed the community immediately after Isha’i prayer, shooting repeatedly while throwing residents into panic.”

The Guardian recalls that the attack was the latest in several reported cases of violent incidents deepening insecurity across parts of the Kwara North and South Senatorial zones.

Just last week, Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, launched the Joint Task Force ‘Operation Savannah Shield’ at the 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin, as part of sustained efforts to clear armed bandits from the state.

There was no response from any of the security agencies contacted at the time this report was filed.

Only recently, terrorists reportedly struck Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state killed over 160 residents, burning houses and abducting over 170 others still in captivity.
