Anambra police arrest man with gun hidden in rice bag
The suspect, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended in Nkwelle-Ezunaka on November 22, 2024.
During interrogation, Bassey confessed to being a member of a vigilante group and admitted his intention to use the firearm for criminal activities.
The statement read: “Police operatives attached to 3-3 Police Divisional Headquarters, led by CSP Emeka Obi, acting on credible information, arrested one Enediong Bassey, a 25-year-old male native of Ikono LGA, Akwa Ibom State. A pump-action gun wrapped in a bag of rice was recovered during the operation.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a security outfit/vigilante group. He admitted he was attempting to escape with the weapon to join his criminal gang for armed robbery and other illicit activities.”
The Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the anti-robbery squad for further investigation.
