The Nigerian Army, through the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has launched a security operation tagged “Clearance Operation” in Taraba State to ensure safety during the farm harvest and upcoming yuletide season.
The initiative, according to the Brigade, aims to dismantle criminal hideouts and safeguard residents. It began on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, as stated in a press release signed by the Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde.
The operation has already led to the dismantling of multiple bandit hideouts and the arrest of a 73-year-old man, Alhaji Buba Maru, in Bakin Dutse. Maru is alleged to specialize in allocating land to bandits for criminal activities.
The operation has also been extended to other notorious areas, including Kona Mountains in Lau Local Government Area, Yorro, and Zing. The army reported significant successes in neutralizing threats, clearing flashpoints, and restoring local confidence.
Brigade Commander Brigadier General Uwa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting Taraba State from bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers. He urged local council chairmen to enhance community sensitization on security, strengthen collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, and ensure proper coordination with security agencies.
He also called on residents to provide actionable intelligence to support ongoing operations. The Commander assured farmers of a peaceful harvest and promised a secure festive season for all citizens.
Local council chairmen expressed their gratitude, noting that the Brigade’s operations have restored peace and enabled residents to sleep soundly.
