The Auchi Polytechnic Alumni Association 1980–1989 sets, fondly called ‘Auchi Oldies,’ will celebrate its 6th anniversary this weekend.
The event, scheduled from May 2 to May 4, will occur at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
As with previous events, the festivities will begin with the arrival of members from across Nigeria and the diaspora on Friday, May 2. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is slated for Saturday morning, followed by a gala night promising an evening of relaxation and glamour.
The association, formed by friends and associates who attended Auchi Polytechnic between 1980 and 1989—a period remembered for its vibrant social activities—was created to rekindle the camaraderie of their youthful days. The alumni held their first AGM and reunion in Benin City, Edo State, in 2019.
Although the 2020 reunion was stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the group resumed its yearly gatherings in 2022, with subsequent reunions in Dallas, Texas, Abuja, Lagos, and now Lagos again in 2025.
In keeping with its commitment to giving back to society, the association commenced its 2025 activities with a visit to the Holy Family Home for the Elderly at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Mushin, Lagos, on March 22. During the visit, the executive members of the Auchi Oldies, led by Onowu Peter Nwadei, donated food items and toiletries to the home.
The visit was marked by lively interactions in a convivial atmosphere between the alumni executives and the elderly residents. In gratitude for the donations, the home’s residents offered prayers for the association.
Responding to an urgent list of further needs from the home, including medications for hypertension and diabetes, adult diapers, and wheelchairs, the association’s executives returned on April 29 with a large quantity of drugs and adult diapers for the elderly.
