The community of Shagbe village and its environs in Ifelodun Local Council of Kwara State was thrown into confusion over the weekend after bandits killed one person and kidnapped eight others.
Sources said the attackers were heavily armed with assorted guns and clubs. The invasion, which occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, forced youths and other able-bodied residents to flee the village.
“One person was killed during the violent invasion, and eight others were declared missing,” a resident told The Guardian on the phone.
A police source disclosed that the incident prompted the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to order the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to move into the village.
The source, however, noted that the volatile situation had made an immediate on-the-spot assessment difficult. Confirming the attack, CP Ojo said the DPO of Oke-Ode Division had already been deployed to the area for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
