CELSIR sponsors 226 incarcerated persons for national examinations

To advance education within the nation’s correctional system, members of the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR) recently registered 226 incarcerated persons for the General Certificate Examination (GCE). Beneficiaries were drawn from correctional facilities in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Enugu, Rivers, Plateau and Abuja. This milestone falls under CELSIR’s Education for Correctional Centres Programme, a flagship initiative designed to expand access to quality learning for justice-impacted individuals.

During the formal presentation, the Assistant Controller General of Corrections, Zone A Command, CELSIR’s Executive Director Joke Aladesanmi noted,“education remains one of the most powerful tools of transformation…”

When incarcerated individuals are given the opportunity to learn, they gain not only knowledge but also confidence, marketable skills, and a renewed sense of purpose. This is the foundation for building a more productive life after incarceration.”
