Court remands man for attempted murder in Rivers
A Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a man identity as Deele Akpobari, alias “Bob Satan,” one of the key suspects linked to the attempted murder of Gani Topba, leader of the Conscience of Ogoni People.
The brutal attack on Topba occurred on March 12, 2024, when he was ambushed and shot multiple times while returning to Port Harcourt from his community, Zaakpo in Khana Local Government Area. The incident left Topba critically injured and hospitalized for months.
Following an extensive investigation, detectives from the Anti-Cultism unit of the Rivers State police command arrested Akpobari, a notorious suspect with alleged ties to cultism and violent crimes.
During the remand proceeding, Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha, filed a motion seeking the court’s permission to detain the suspect pending further investigation and prosecution.
However, Chief Magistrate Rosemary Ibanibo declined jurisdiction over the matter, citing the gravity of the offenses alleged.

She directed that the case file be transmitted to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and guidance.
The court adjourned the matter until November 12, 2024, to allow for proper arraignment and trial.
However, Akpobari will face charges including attempted murder, cultism, and possession of illegal firearms.
