Cross River State Government has officially handed over 31 hectares of land at Adiabo, Calabar to Family Home Fund to construct a women’s housing scheme.

The housing scheme is a Federal Government initiative known as the National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (NPRGS) to empower the widows and vulnerable women in Cross River State.

Under the arrangement, the firm is expected to build 70 units of two-bedroom apartments and to be completed by March 2015.

Speaking shortly after the handover at Adiabo the Special Adviser to the governor, Department of Social Housing, Dr Ekamem Ekpo commended President Bola Tinubu for the bold initiative and his commitment to transform the lives of rural women

The Special Adviser also lauded Governor Bassey Otu for providing the land and ensuring that all bottlenecks are removed to ensure smoother operations by the firm.

The Special Adviser urged the youths to support the project and be prepared to own up to the project as most of them will be trained on the latest building technology.

The team later paid a courtesy call to the Obono of Calabar, Spider Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V on whose clan the proposed housing scheme is located.
