The Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD), a coalition of organizations dedicated to national progress, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Mr. Abdullahi Nedanda Bardi as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Delta State.
In a press statement released in Abuja, CSATD Convener Mohammed Basah commended the President’s decisive leadership in selecting Mr. Bardi, whose wealth of experience is expected to provide strategic guidance and stability to one of Nigeria’s premier maritime institutions.
Highlighting Mr. Bardi’s credentials, Basah noted his academic foundation in Computer Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1983). Bardi began his career teaching mathematics and computer science before transitioning to roles as a Systems Analyst and Systems Manager in Nigeria’s steel and cement industries. His extensive experience also includes Information Technology consultancy, where he has served corporate organizations across Nigeria and West Africa.
“Mr. Bardi’s dedication to public service is equally commendable,” Basah remarked. “As a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has meaningfully contributed to governance, serving as chairman and member of several tertiary institution councils. His appointment as Chairman of the NMU Governing Council is a testament to his capability and a promise for NMU’s growth in maritime education and research.”
CSATD underscored the strategic importance of NMU in advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry and supporting broader economic diversification goals. Basah expressed confidence that under Bardi’s leadership, the university will strengthen its position as a leading maritime institution in Africa.
“With Mr. Bardi’s proven expertise and dedication, the Nigeria Maritime University is well-positioned to achieve new heights of excellence,” he added.
The alliance reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bardi, the NMU Governing Council, and the university’s management in achieving their mandate. As part of this commitment, CSATD plans to organize a solidarity visit to the newly appointed Chairman, drawing delegates from its members across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Basah concluded by congratulating Mr. Bardi on his well-deserved appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to provide visionary leadership that will benefit NMU, its students, and the nation at large.
