Drama as vehicle inspection officers clash with motorist in Jibowu

Pandemonium erupted in the Jibowu area of Lagos yesterday after operatives of the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) confronted a company driver over alleged refusal to stop for routine checks.

The incident, which took place in front of passers-by and commuters, turned violent as VIS officials engaged in a heated physical altercation with the motorist.

Witnesses claimed that the confrontation started when the driver, instead of complying with the officials’ request to present his vehicle papers, tried to speed off recklessly.

The alleged reckless act led him dangerously close to a group of women pedestrians, causing outrage among onlookers who demanded a proper investigation before releasing the vehicle.

After the failed attempt to escape, the VIS officials chased and managed to stop the vehicle after a short pursuit. Chaos ensued as the situation escalated into a physical confrontation. The officials were seen exchanging blows with the driver, pushing and grappling with him to subdue and arrest him.

He was later arrested.

When The Guardian reached out to the Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunsola, she stated that she had yet to confirm any report of such incident.
