Driver crushes two Ondo poly students to death

Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, were crushed to death by a vehicle on Wednesday night.

The victims, identified as Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola, were on a bicycle along the busy Akure-Ondo highway when a Toyota sedan car rammed into them.

Confirming the incident, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, expressed sadness over the incident.

Describing the death of the students as devastating, the student body, in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Joshua Oluwarotimi, Secretary-General, Ajibola Oluwanishola, and Public Relations Officer, Blessing Kehinde, said, “We mourn the loss of two young lives that were taken far too soon.

“Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola were not just students but individuals with unique talents, aspirations, and dreams.

“They had their whole lives ahead of them, and we can only imagine the great things they would have accomplished if given the chance.

“As we reflect on the lives of these young people, let us remember that every life is precious, and every person has the right to live safely and peacefully.”

Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Emergency Response, Oriade Adebawo, disclosed that the victims died at the scene of the accident.

While commiserating with the families of the victims, Adebawo, who frowned upon the reckless driving that led to the accident, warned drivers against overspeeding in the state.
