DSS, Army foil terrorists’ attack in Riyom through drone, CCTV surveillance

Department of State Services (DSS) officers

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), supported by the Nigerian Army (NA), have foiled a planned attack on Ganchung Village, near the Primary Health Care Centre in Rim, Riyom Local Council of Plateau State.

The operation was aided by drone and CCTV surveillance, which reportedly detected armed men carrying AK-47 rifles and K2 rifles among cattle herders as they allegedly attempted to coordinate an attack on the community.

Following the surveillance alert, security forces traced the suspects, mobilised rapidly and pursued them into the hinterlands around Mahanga. The assailants reportedly fled into mountain hideouts.

The DSS has deployed technology-driven security camps across Riyom, Mangu and Barkin Ladi, with plans to extend the initiative to Bokkos.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while speaking during a recent lecture at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), assured residents of improved cooperation between the state government and security agencies.

He reaffirmed that although Plateau remains open to peace-loving residents, criminals would be hunted down.

Meanwhile, high-tech surveillance cameras are currently monitoring the hinterlands of Plateau State.

Residents have also been urged to report suspected criminal activities, as harbouring criminal elements could endanger their communities.
