The Executive Chairman of Uromi Like Minds Initiative (ULMI), Deacon Darlington Okpebholo Ray, has called for support towards orphans and the elderly in Uromi, Esan North East Local Council of Edo State, in the spirit of Easter.
Speaking during the group’s donation of food items, medical supplies, hygiene materials, and financial aid to orphanages and elderly homes in the area, Okpebholo stressed the need for unity, compassion, and a collective commitment to rebuilding Uromi and Esanland, especially amid current security challenges.
“The Easter season reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice; God’s gift of His only Son for mankind’s redemption. In this same spirit of selflessness, we must extend kindness to the disadvantaged,” he said.
Okpebholo urged sons and daughters of Uromi, both at home and abroad, to support peace and progress in the community, noting its legacy of producing national icons such as the late Chief Anthony Enahoro and Chief Tony Anenih.
He lamented the insecurity affecting Uromi, but maintained that the town’s true character lies in its people’s resilience and unity. “Through efforts like this, we illuminate the true essence of Uromi,” he said.
He also invited indigenes to join the Initiative and contribute to its mission.
Mr Sylvester Ezehi, another member, described the outreach as a consistent effort over five years to bring relief to the less privileged, saying, “Our mission is to bring smiles to the faces of the needy, and we are committed to sustaining it.”
