The police on Sunday said it has arrested one Omowaye Ayodele, who was a member of the kidnapping gang that recently kidnapped former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti (EKSU), Professor Femi Olaofe, at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti, and later murdered him.

Also, the Ekiti State Police Command said that Ayodele and two other suspects, including Ojo Temidayo a.k.a Yellow and Busari Lookman a.k.a Abbey, robbed and killed one Aina Adeyemi, robbing her of N115,000 while riding on an unregistered Boxer Bajaj motorcycle at Babian Junction, beside Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, Ado-Ekiti.

The Police spokesman, in the state, Abutu Sunday, in a statement on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, said after receiving a distress call about the attack on Adeyemi, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was immediately deployed to the scene where the victim was found in a pool of her blood.
She was rushed to Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

“Investigation by the Command Rapid Response Squad led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Omowaye Ayodele A.K.A Baba Ogbon, in Akure, Ondo State.

“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to having taken part in the commission of the crime and mentioned Ojo Temidayo A.K.A Yellow and Busari Lookman A.K.A Abbey as accomplices.

“According to him, Busari Lookman A.K.A Abbey went ahead to shoot and rob the victim, while he and Ojo Temidayo A.K.A Yellow stood by the road close to the scene of the crime to monitor the environment and describe the victim to Busari Lookman A.K.A Abbey, who carried out the operation.”

Abutu added, “Intensified efforts by the operatives of the RRS led to the arrest of Busari Lookman A.K.A Abbey, who confessed during interrogation that he was the one who shot the deceased victim and robbed her of a cash sum of one hundred and fifty-five thousand naira (₦155,000).

“He mentioned Omowaye Ayodele A.K.A A.Y Baba Ogbon and Ojo Temidayo A.K.A Yellow as his accomplices, including one Sunday Onyema who is currently at large. According to him, the money robbed was handed over to Omowaye Ayodele A.K.A A.Y Baba Ogbon, and a sum of fifty thousand naira (₦50,000) was given to him as his share.

“Omowaye Ayodele further confessed that he is also a member of a kidnapping syndicate that recently kidnapped the late Professor Femi Olaofe at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti. He stated that he was arrested in 2015 for kidnapping, imprisoned, and recently released on 24/05/2024 after completing his jail term.

“Omowaye Ayodele also confessed that he and his gang members have attacked and robbed different Point of Sale (POS) operators at different locations in Ado-Ekiti, such as Bawa Estate Area, Better Life Area, among others.”

Abutu said that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and would be arraigned accordingly, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing member of the gang who is allegedly in custody of the arms they use for their operations.
