Falomo passes on at 87

Advertising icon and businessman, Chief Olu Falomo, is dead. The Ilesa, Osun State born Socialite died at the age of 87 years.

He was one of the illustrious sons of Ijesaland. The late Loofosan of Ifosan, Ilesa was a former Chairman of Lagos Island Club and Chairman of Reckitt Benckiser and the Principal Consultant of Olu Falomo & Associates.

Falomo was educated in Nigeria and in the United Kingdom, and was one of the pioneers of Television and Commercial Radio Broadcasting in Nigeria, starting way back in 1959.

In 1963 he moved into Advertising, where he held several positions up to Executive Director at Ogilvy, Benson and Mather. In 1986 he founded Forum Advertising Limited and was its CEO until his recent retirement.

He served as President or Council Member of several advertising professional bodies among which are the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), the Nigeria Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) and the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).

He was appointed Chairman of APCON by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in December 1999 and served in that capacity for 4 years. He was also a member of the World Board of Directors of the International Advertising Association (IAA) from 1990 to 1994.

Falomo also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Osun State UNDP/Assisted Sustainable Human Development Fund (OSSHDF), of Bode Akindele Foundation, of D.O. Fagunwa Foundation and of St. Paul’s Senior Citizens Foundation for Elderly Persons.
