Family member of kidnapped victims at Millennium City in Kaduna, Muizat Yusuf, has recounted how armed men stormed their home at night and abducted her parents and younger brother.

According to Muizat, she hid herself during the attack and watched as the gunmen led her family members away into the darkness, leaving her as the only immediate member of the household at home.

Those abducted are her mother, Lateeefat Yusuf (née Oyetunji), a teacher with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education; her father, Yahaya Yusuf, proprietor of a community-focused model school; and her 21-year-old brother, AbdulGafar Yusuf.

The Yusuf family has lived in Millennium City since 2015 and is known in the area for its modest contributions to education and community development.

Yahaya Yusuf’s school, residents say, is popular for offering affordable education to children from low-income families and for providing employment to locals, including members of the Gwari and Fulani communities.

Lateeefat Yusuf is also described as a committed public school teacher who has spent years shaping young minds across the state.

Their children, neighbours noted, reflect the family’s investment in education. One son is studying Medicine at Bayero University Kano, while AbdulGafar, now in captivity, recently graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is awaiting national service.

Muizat herself recently secured admission to Bayero University Kano to study Nursing and is expected to resume after the fasting period.

She expressed concern for her brother’s health, describing him as physically delicate and saying, “Every second counts,” as she worries about the conditions in which they are being held.

The family said it is not apportioning blame but appealing to security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of Lateeefat Yusuf, Yahaya Yusuf and AbdulGafar Yusuf, as Muizat hopes simply to have her family back.
