FCT police nab six suspects linked to nightclub attack

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers linked to a string of violent attacks around nightclubs and recreational centres in Abuja.

The suspects were arrested on Friday, January 17, 2026, following what the police described as credible intelligence about their movements.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement that the arrests followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, for an immediate clampdown on the gang.

Adeh explained that the Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Aliyu Abubakar, deployed a discreet, intelligence-led operation to track the suspects.

She said the operation, led by the Commander of the Scorpion Squad, ACP Victor Godfrey, culminated in a raid on the gang’s hideout at Dakwa in the Dei-Dei area of the FCT.

“The suspects were apprehended while planning a fresh attack,” the statement read.

Those arrested were identified as Suleiman Magaji (25), Abdullahi Abubakar (20), Abubakar Shitu ‘M’ (25), Sani Ibrahim (17), Rabiu Dahiru (19) and Ahmen Abdullahi (26).

According to the police, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to several armed robbery incidents in the FCT.

One case involved a recent robbery at Crystal Lounge in Wuse II, where a hotel guest was robbed of gold jewellery valued at about ₦15m.

The police said the stolen jewellery was later sold by the suspects for ₦1.2m.

Items recovered during the operation included a black toy gun, local charms, long and short knives, and 42 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Adeh said the suspects and recovered exhibits were in police custody and would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives, CP Dantawaye praised their professionalism and gallantry during the operation.

He also appreciated members of the public for the timely information that aided the arrests.

The commissioner urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and security-conscious, and to continue supporting police efforts by reporting suspicious persons or activities.

Dantawaye, psc., directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure the immediate arrest of the criminal gang.

Following the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, DCP Aliyu Abubakar, deployed a discreet intelligence-led operation led by ACP Victor Godfrey, Commander of the Scorpion Squad. The operation tracked and raided the gang’s hideout at Dakwa, Dei-Dei area of the FCT, where the suspects were arrested while allegedly planning another attack.

The suspects arrested are Suleiman Magaji (25), Abdullahi Abubakar (20), Abubakar Shitu ‘M’ (25), Sani Ibrahim (17), Rabiu Dahiru (19), and Ahmen Abdullahi (26).
