The Kwara State Fire Service yesterday recovered the body of a mentally challenged man found floating on the Asa River along Emir’s Road in Ilorin.
Firefighters were alerted after concerned residents discovered the body at about 11:00 a.m. and quickly placed a distress call to the agency.
The cause of the drowning could not be immediately determined. However, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity for the State Fire Service, stated that the body had been handed over to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment for further action.
Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commiserated with the deceased’s family and advised members of the public to be cautious and avoid risky activities around riverbanks and other water bodies to prevent similar incidents.
