The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) yesterday rescued an elderly man and prevented an apparent suicide attempt at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru, in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The agency said it received a distress call at exactly 10:09 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of its rescue crew alongside personnel from the Abesan Fire Station. Officials arrived at the scene at about 10:20 a.m.
According to the service, the incident involved an 84-year-old man who reportedly fell into a well estimated to be about 140 feet deep. Preliminary findings suggested a suspected case of attempted suicide, as the well was said to be adequately protected and securely covered.
The victim was successfully recovered by the rescue team and later handed over to family members for further necessary attention. The agency said the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to prompt emergency response and urged members of the public to seek help and report emergencies through appropriate channels when in distress.
