Five dead, several injured in multiple crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Five people were killed yesterday in a tragic accident involving seven vehicles along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway. The crash occurred near the Soka axis in the Ibadan section of the expressway and involved four trailers, three Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry.

An eyewitness recounted that the accident began when a trailer collided with another trailer attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station, triggering a chain reaction. The collision led to three additional trailers, three Micra cars, and the Camry becoming involved in the crash.

Among the casualties were the driver of a Micra taxi and three passengers, including a woman who died at the scene. The woman’s husband, who was also in the vehicle, sustained severe injuries. Other passengers in the affected vehicles were rushed to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries.

Mrs Rosemary Alo, Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the incident, attributing it to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking. She described the crash as a multiple collision involving seven vehicles, occurring near Seblak Event Centre.

“The FRSC is on-site clearing obstructions and managing traffic,” Mrs Alo stated.
